Ivan the Terrible (Ivan IV or Ivan Vasilyevich) was an infamous Russian ruler. He was born in 1530 and was the first Czar of all Russians from 1547-1584. He was known for introducing an effective central adminadstration and created an empire that incorporated non-Slav states. He was also known for having many people murderd, and causing pain to others. Ivan's grandfather was Ivan (the Great) III. His father was Grand Duke Vasily III of Moscow, who died in 1533 of an abscess in his right hip. His mother was Yelena Glinskaya who died in 1538 allegedly by poison. He had seven known wives, one of which was Anastasia Romanova Zakharina, who had a very positive influence on him. She and Ivan were married in 1547, but sadly, she died in 1560. Ivan was very upset about this, and went on to having 6 more wives. In total, Ivan had 8 children. As you can see, Ivan the Terrible was an infamous Russian ruler who had a tragic life, but a great effect on all of Russia.
